Joan Kariuki-Kungu

Joan Kungu brings to the board over a decade of leadership in environmental development, climate resilience, and community-driven restoration. She previously served as Country Director at Eden: People + Planet, where she led programs linking ecosystem restoration with improved livelihoods and forged partnerships with government, civil society, and the private sector.

Her earlier work with the World Agroforestry Centre and the African Centre for Technology Studies focused on multi-country initiatives in sustainable land use and environmental policy. Joan is known for translating scientific insights into practical programs that empower local communities and drive lasting impact.

She holds a Master’s degree in Development Studies (Environmental Development) from the University of Nairobi and a Bachelor’s in Environmental Science from Kenyatta University. On the board, Joan contributes her technical expertise, inclusive leadership, and commitment to evidence-based decision-making, transparency, and nurturing future environmental change-makers.
